Thanksgiving

Yesterday was Thanksgiving, or Turkey day as some are calling it, here in the good old, US of A.

Thanksgiving, I believe, is a holiday that celebrates the harvest times of old, which, given that it is the middle of winter, would probably be a good thing back in the 1500’s, but I digress…

Yesterday was a rather slow starting day, but boy was the finish a blur.  We didn’t really get moving until about noon.  We got Lily bathed, and showered ourselves.  We finally got out the door at about 1.30pm and arrived up at Cindy’s at about 1.40pm.  Jaime and her clan (4 children and Husband, Stevie) arrived a little after 2pm and we got eating.

For some reason, Cindy had prepared enough food to feed about 20 adults and we only had six adults, two teenaged boys (12 and 16), two young girls (7 and almost 4) and an infant (24 weeks).  As you can imagine, we barely made a dent in what was available.  I only managed one heaped plate, which is about the norm for me of late.

After that, we just sat around and talked for a while, when Brandon, Jennifer’s cousin, arrived trying to find his mother.

At about 4pm we were getting ready to head up to Grandma Colwell’s for a repeat of what we just went through, Ashley, another one of Jennifer’s cousins called asked if we’d stick around a little while later so she could come and visit.

So her and Jennifer talked, whilst I had a conversation with Brandon about US politics, governmental differences between US and NZ and other topics of great intellect (note: sarcasm), until about 5pm, at which time Brandon left for his mother’s house, soon followed by Ashley.  We finally managed to get out of Brown’s Fork at about 5.30pm, to arrive at Grandma Colwell’s a little after 6pm.

Here, I got to meet one of the Colwell brother’s I hadn’t met yet.  His name is Elbert (could be Albert, but I couldn’t really tell with the accents), but everybody calls him Junior.  No prizes for guessing why.  I was offered more food, but I was still stuffed from the first meal some two hours before.

While we were there, we drew names for the family secret santa, I got to meet a few more cousins and got to watch a bunch of guys beat the shit out of each other on TV.  All in all, it was an entertaining night.

As always, Lilyana was the star of the show.  She was doted on by all her Aunts, and cousins and Grandparents most of the day.  She seems to be quite the socialite, even at the tender age of 24 weeks.  Go figure.

Anyway, Thanksgiving finally ended with us heading home at around about 8pm, watching a movie,0 eating a little more and finally passing out at about 10.30pm.  The whole day seemed like a bit of a warm up to Christmas to me, which is only four weeks away.  Man, time flies…
