The Ramblings of a Simple Man

  • It’s tax time! YAY!

So, it’s tax time here in the US. Unfortunately, having never had to submit any kind of tax… erm… stuff before, I hadn’t given it much thought and actually had pretty much forgotten about it, even with my wife’s constant reminders that I need to call Keith (her dad’s accountant) and make an appointment to…

  • Thursday League: 2009 Complete

This past Thursday marked the end of the ’08/’09 Season. I just missed my 180 average goal by a fraction of a pin, which was a little disappointing, but I’m very happy with the milestones I did manage to bag this season. I’ve only been bowling competitively for about 8 months, but in that time…

  • Thursday League: April 2, 2009

This was the last night of our Thursday night league (except for the roll off, which is this coming Thursday, April 9). I had worked out that I needed to bowl a 634 to finish out the season with a 180 average over 84 games.  This had been my goal at the start of the…

  • End of the League season

This season, being my first season ever, has been full of ups and downs, as you might expect. I think I’ve thrown a late 300 series, a mid 700 series and everything in between. I’m beginning to really understand the fundamentals of the game and realise I need a lot more practice before I should…

  • Lilyana… She’s a growing!!!

I can’t believe its been almost nine months since Lilyana was born. She’s growing up so quickly. She’s started crawling, she’s eating solids, she’s starting to vocalise a whole lot more. Her personality is really starting to form and at the moment, it’s looking like the apple has not fallen far from tree, either one…

  • Hard times and the economy

The last few months have really taken its toll on us financially. Since moving to the US, we’ve not been in the financial position to get our own place. This is quite a depressing thought. Jennifer and I have been married for 19 months and we haven’t lived on our own the entire time. In…

  • Thursday League: March 5, 2009

This Thursday was by far my most successful league night. After recently breaking the 600 series a few weeks ago, I thought I had probably peaked for the season.  Well, I was wrong.  Last night I bowled my first 700, and what a 700 it was!

  • Somerset, KY and Ju-Jitsu

Yesterday, we travelled to Somerset, KY to watch our nephew, Christoper Caldwell, compete in a small Ju-Jitsu tournament.  This is the first time I’d seen any kind of martial arts competition in the flesh and I must admit, I was impressed.

  • Thursday League: February 19th, 2009

Okay.  So tonight I managed a 598 (202,216,180), just two pins short of the ever elusive 600 on Thursday night.  This is encouraging to me as it came off the back of a 627 on Sunday night, which tells me I’m starting to get the new release down.

  • Sunday League: February 1st, 2009

Tonight got off to a good start.  I managed to bowl a 522 series, which isn’t bad.  It’s still a 173 average, but I would like to be bowling closer to 185 – 190.  I guess I can’t complain too much, seeing as this is my first season and all.
