Well, much has happened in the last month. I have completed my 4 – 6 week contract with Frontier Nursing Services (FNS) and have just been offered another 250 hours of work. That is going to keep the coffers well stocked for the next couple of months, at least. On top of that, a friend of mine has also offered me a pretty good sized contract doing so work for a local company called Kentucky River Community Care (KRCC) and a new contact in Wisconsin has offered me a little work as well. Needless to say, I have my hands full right now. At this point, I don’t know exactly what I’ll be doing for KRCC, but from what I’m told it should keep me pretty busy. I believe there is another contract on the way for local church, so the possibility of being in our own house/apartment/trailer/dwelling in the very near future is a very real one.
The most exciting news from the past month has to be our second wedding anniversary. It so doesn’t feel like its been two years. So much has happened, it feels like its both longer and shorter than that at the same time. It’s a very surreal feeling. How did we celebrate? Why, we bought ourselves some new bowling gear of course! And, no, I’m not kidding! LOL! We couldn’t really go anywhere, since our car has been on the fritz (yeah, I said it!) since we arrived in the US and was gradually getting worse. So we finally came up with the money to fix that and decided that since there is a new league season just around the corner (September 17 to be exact), we might as well get a couple new balls and take a trip to Pikeville, KY to get em fitted. As it turns out, all the balls I have owned up til now have been badly fitted. Norman, the guy in Pikeville that drilled our gear, gave me a great fit and the ball feels so much better on my hand now. I think I still need to make a few minor adjustments, but it feels so good to throw a ball without having to fight to keep it on my hand!
As it turns out, one of my best friends from New Zealand was up in Chicago in early August. I was itching to get up there and catch up with him and his parents while they were over, but I was broke for the 10 days he was over and we got the car fixed like, two days after he flew out again because that was when the checks arrived! GRRRRR! Next time…
I’ve also been playing a little music with some guys I’ve met recently and its looking like we’re gonna try and get a band started. I’m excited but a little apprehensive about it. For the moment, I’m quite happy to see where this goes, but I’m not sure I want to make a huge committment to a band that might end up touring and what not. As far as I know, there are no plans to take this thing big time, but we’ll see what happens. It’s been nice getting out and playing some though. It’s been so long since I’ve even jammed anything, this feels like a kind of awakening in a sense. It brings back many memories of playing in churches and bars back home. I’ve missed it. I will definitely need to find myself a voice coach and learn how to actually use my voice properly.
All in all, things are looking promising. I can only hope things continue in this direction.
