Employment update

Over the last month or so, work has been pretty good for me. I’ve managed to get through a couple of reasonable projects, one is about to wrap up and I’m currently working on an ASP.NET based Facebook application, which is new to me. Admittedly, the application isn’t really a stretch because I’m pretty much dumping a Flash application in to a Facebook canvas and doing a few simple database updates, but it’s still a chance to get a better handle on ASP.NET and the .NET framework as a whole.

While we’re talking about .NET, I recently accepted a month long, three day a week contract with Frontier Nursing Services (FNS) starting in July.  FNS is a nursing school out in Hyden, KY, which is incidentally where Lilyana was born almost a year. This job will involve some ASP.NET development, but more importantly, it could lead to long term employment which is something I’ve struggled to come across since mid October last year. For now, the only thing that is 100% certain is the contract starting in July, but I’m really hoping some kind of permanent placement will come of that contract. Only time will tell.  I had the chance to go out there a couple of weeks ago to go through a kind of orientation with what I’m doing and I got to write some ASP for the first time in about six years, which was interesting.

I will try to keep things up to date on this as things unfold.
