Fall League 2010 Summary

So we just wrapped up yet another bowling season and this one has been quite good one for me. I finally feel like my game is starting to settle in. I’m much more consistent at the foul line and my release is much more solid than it has been.

I didn’t post any big sets, but I managed to put together a few decent sized games with a new high of 276! 11 strikes and a single spare! NICE! Not the first time I’ve done that (I’ve shot 267 with 11 strikes and 1 open!), but VERY gratifying putting together that many strikes. I believe that same game, my team mates posted 256and 233 (or something like that). Needless to say, we won that game. I finished with a 185 average, which shows I have a decent base game to work from. This is encouraging for me.

This season (along with video footage) has exposed a few major problems in my game as well, unfortunately. My swing tends to bump to the left both at the top of the swing and again halfway through the down swing. The movement late in the swing is due to a pronounced step to the right as I enter the slide. This step right was developed due to knee pain in my right knee. Moving left to start then back to the right entering the slide alleviated that pain, but created the problems I’m now seeing. Hopefully, I can find a way to straighten out my approach without aggravating that knee injury again.

The other major thing I noticed through video was that my slide is more of a stomp, with a small slide after that. This comes about because I take a LARGE step going into the slide which sees my heel touching the ground first. I need to reduce the size of that last step and I think I will be seeing a slide again, which should relieve a lot of pressure on my left knee and left hip.

All in all, I feel like I’m finally starting to bring my game together. Spares a still a little lack luster, but I intend to remedy that this summer. Hopefully, next season the 200 pin average will be well within reach.
