This last week was an absolutely miserable effort on my part. After weeks of staying in close to 600, I finished this week with a measley 504. I was having problems get any kind of reaction out of my ball. I think I need to get it resurfaced again. I need to start taking real care of my equipment to make sure I get decent mileage out of all my equipment. At the end of the game, I switched to my Twisted Fury and sure enough I was getting a better, more consistent reaction out of it. The Arch Rival was my first ball and as such has had a lot more games put on it. Having said that, I think I need to rough the surface up a little on my Twisted Fury to get a more movement out of it.
Roger missed out on his almost obligatory 700, but he still managed to finish with a decent mid 600 series. Ron finished with a mid 600 as well. Tonight was the first time I’ve felt like I was really lagging behind and not contributing. As it turns out, this week was the last night of the first split and we happened to be playing the team that was in second to us. Whats more, if they won two games they would take first away from us, which really sux since we’ve won every week by a convincing margin. Thankfully, Roger and Ron showed up and kept us on target. We lost the first game by about 30 pins, which incidentally was the difference in handicap.
So, game one. This game was absolutely laden with open frames. I think I had 4 open frames, maybe a couple of strikes and the rest was spares. As a result, I finished with a useless 157. YAY ME!
Game two. The game was a little better, but I still couldn’t string together many strikes. I think I might have got a couple of doubles, but I couldn’t capitalize and make them turkeys. I finished this game with a 186. Thats a better game and definitely closer to where I want to be rolling.
After doing some quick number crunching, I figured out I need at least 157 to make a 500, which meant I needed a 257 to get the 600. Unfortunately, by about frame 4 I realised I wasn’t going to get the 600 and in fact, I was going to be struggling to get the 500. Just like game one, I had problems throwing strikes and was leaving far too many open frames. By frame 7, I decided to make a ball change and suddenly I found a reaction I liked and finished the game well, to scrape out a 161 to dredge up a weak 504.
Hopefully, next week will be a little more convincing.
