It’s official! I am a US Permanent Resident!<\/p>\n
For those not in the know, I had what was known as Conditional Permanent Residence status. The conditional part was due to being married to Jennifer for less than 2 years BEFORE we migrated to the US. The conditions of the my residency were that I was to remain married to Jennifer for two years and share in the responsibilities of the household in that time, to prove that our marriage was real and that I was not going to be a drain on the US resources. Obviously, proving our marriage was important to show that I didn’t want to just gain residency or citizenship, then cut and run!<\/p>\n
I received a letter yesterday informing me that my petition to remove the conditional status from my permanent residency had been approved! I am the proud owner of a shiny new “Green card” (yes, this one is ACTUALLY green! Go figure!) and was even sent a little foil sleeve to store it in to, quote: “Prevent unauthorized wireless interaction with it.” I would post a picture of the card itself so you can see what it looks like, but that is not the best idea, given the rate of identity theft here in the US.<\/p>\n
I was certain there would be a final interview with the U.S.C.I.S<\/abbr>, but I guess I was wrong. The process is complete. My card expires in 2020, so I guess I have to reapply in 2020.
