Sue me! 😛

This month will prove to be a rather busy one for me. This month I turn 30, I have to submit my application the United States Citizen and Immigration Service (USCIS) to have the conditional status removed from my Permanent Residence Visa, I will travelling to Newport, KY for a bowling lesson and I will competing in an in-house bowling tournament. YAY MARCH!

The USCIS

This month (in fact within the next week) I need to have submitted my application to the USCIS to have the conditional status removed from my permanent residency or risk having my visa revoked and possibly get my ass deported back to New Zealand WITHOUT my family. I received notification about five weeks ago that this was coming up. Now, having paid just under $1,000 NZD (~$700 USD) to get my visa in the first place, you would think having the conditional status removed would be cheap, right? WRONG! It will cost me $545 USD (~$790 NZD)! That’s right folks, it will cost me ALMOST what it cost me to get here in the first place just to change my status.

For those that don’t know (I suspect that would be almost everyone), the conditional status on my visa is because at the time of my application, Jennifer and I had only been married for about eight months or so and together as a couple for about 10 or 11 months. Immigration law in both New Zealand and the United States requires that you be married, prove that you have been a couple, for at least two years. While we couldn’t prove the two years part of the whole deal, having a wife that is heavily pregnant during the interview (I think she was almost six months in by that time) would convince just about anyone that the marriage was not an arrangement to get me a US visa. The proviso to the application being accepted was that I would be placed on a conditional visa that was valid for two years and I would have to apply to have the conditional status removed within the 90 day period BEFORE that two year period was up. We now have some 60 days remaining. The only thing we’re waiting on is the money, which should be here ANY DAY now.

Happy birthday to me!

This month also happens to be the 30th anniversary of my arrival on this planet. That’s right folks, as of March 12th, 2010, I will no longer be in my 20’s and I really couldn’t care less! LOL! It’s so funny looking back and I distinctly remember being in my mid teens and thinking 24 was old. Then I turned 21 or so and I remember thinking 30 was old. Now as 30 fast approaches, I’m starting to realize that 30 isn’t that old at all. In fact, even 40 isn’t that old and neither is 50! LOL! It strange how perceptions change with age, huh? Anyway…

For my birthday, I’ve managed to snag a very special treat. Early on the morning of the 12th, we’ll be heading out of town to a town called Newport, KY, which is just south of Cincinnati, OH, about 3 hours away, give or take 15 minutes or so. Once there, I will be receiving a one-on-one coaching (bowling) session with the legendary, Mo Pinel.

Meet Mo Pinel

Mo is the owner of MoRich Bowling Ball Company, LLC., in Yorktown, VA, one of the fast growing ball companies in the US. He is also the developer of one of the most revolutionary ball layout systems since Bill Taylor’s T-grip system. Not only that, he is the lead instructor for International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association (IBPSIA) which means he’s taught the best pro shop operators in the country AND he is one of a handful of gold certified coaches in the country, making him one of the best coaches in the business.

Now, I met Mo on a bowling forum called Bowling Ball Exchange. I happened to stumble on the site one day and noticed that Mo was involved in an open “Q&A” session on those boards. After reading just a small handful of the posts, I joined the board because I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to absorb all this new information about bowling balls, ball motion, layouts and fitting. The list goes on and on. Soon after, he did another Q&A session which had even MORE information about all this stuff. Soon after that, Mo began posting the same kind of information on another board, which I promptly joined. Based on the absolute WEALTH of knowledge I’ve accumulated in the last three months, I can say with absolute confidence that Mo is one of the most knowledgeable men in the business of bowling. Period.

As it turns out, I created a topic outlining my observations of the differences between all my gear. More specifically, where each one was tracking. Mo promptly responded and said that I had a few problems with either my release, my fit or both, but he couldn’t say which without seeing me actually bowl. My heart sank, as there are NO readily available pro shop operators or coaches in my area, meaning I would have to drive some 60 miles (about an hour) to the nearest one to have my fit re-evaluated. Mo, however, happened to be doing some extensive travelling through the months of February and March. He told me he would be in Newport, KY on the 12th, to call the pro shop at the center he was going to and they would make an appointment for me to see him. So, I did just that and I’ve been counting down the days ever since! LOL! I’m looking forward to meeting this guy and hopefully coming away with a better knowledge of my mechanics and hopefully, the specs for a better fit. All very good things, when it comes to the game, nay, sport of bowling.

Tournament at Fugate’s

Believe it or not, that doesn’t round off the month! LOL! Fugate’s Bowl-a-rama , the center I bowl in and work at part time, is holding a tournament over three consecutive Wednesdays: March 10, March 17 and March 22. The tournament will have three events: singles, doubles and teams. If you enter all three events, you could also enter yourself in the all events pool as well. As I am the man responsible for oiling the lanes I will have to be down there all three Wednesdays, as well as the usual Thursdays and Sunday’s for league bowling. Personally, I’m looking forward to it. I don’t expect to do THAT well, but I am looking forward to getting a little experience bowling tournaments. Even though the shot will be our league shot, it still something different you know. It will give me the opportunity to compete head to head with some of the guys in the house and while I don’t expect to win, its still a step in the right direction. All going well, I might even have a new piece equipment to throw, but I doubt it.

I’ll definitely be posting again in the near future about both my session with Mo and the upcoming tournament.
