This is a song I wrote about Jennifer just before I told her that I actually liked her. The irony is, just after I wrote it, I found out she had just started to date another guy. Thankfully, four months later we were “together”, as it were and I was planning a trip to the US to come and visit here.
This song basically lays out everything that was going through my head at the time I was writing this song. I was struggling with the idea that I had a strong attraction to someone that lived halfway across the world, as alluded to by “someone light years away” and “someone lost in a day.” The idea that she was physically and romantically out of reach was the main theme here. I was trying to reconcile the feelings I was having to the idea of dating someone I couldn’t physically touch and hold in my arms.

Out of reach
Music and Lyrics by Kelly Te Huna
Standing here
Thinking of words I could say to her
What would that mean for me?
What would that mean for she?
So unclear
Everything shrouded in mystery
Why does this have to be?
Why does she have to be out of reach?
How do you tell someone light years away
That you first waking thought as you start off your day
Is of her and whether you’ll hear her voice soon.
How do you find someone lost in a day
That you just want to be there
If only to say that it’s true…
I’m no longer out of reach.
Out of reach.
Stranded here
Never quite sure if I’m lost to her
Does she still notice me?
How do I make her see?
How do you tell someone light years away
That you first waking thought as you start off your day
Is of her and whether you’ll hear her voice soon.
How do you find someone lost in a day
That you wish you could be there
If only to say that it’s through…
I’m no longer out of reach.
No longer out of reach.
Standing here
Thinking of words I could say to her
What would that mean for me?
What would that mean for she?
